  • JPY - Machine Orders (YoY) - Jan.

    March 09, 2010 23:50 GMT
  • Measures (What does it measure?):
  • The value of machinery orders placed at major manufacturers in Japan
  • Frequency:
  • Monthly. Usually released in the second week after the month.
  • Purpose (Why should traders care?):
  • Machine orders usually provide an indication of business confidence and spending. This release also signals whether companies in general are planning to expand their workforce (new machine tools usually require additional employees to run and maintain the equipment). Traders may look at machine orders to get a snapshot of the future economic outlook. Higher order numbers historically have a positive effect on the economy; the degree of this effect varies.
